Customer Gets Repairs at Simard Automotive After Grueling 2,600-Mile Drive

Joe had driven his very-used 1995 Chevy Suburban all the way from Idaho while towing a large U-Haul trailer. He actually had recently bought the vehicle used for a pretty low price and it already had over 285,000 miles on it, so he knew it wasn’t really in tip-top shape. Joe took into his trusted mechanic back in Idaho before taking the trip.

The mechanic told him everything that was wrong, and Joe opted to only fix what he absolutely needed to make the trip safely. Though he survived the long journey, it wasn’t without its challenges. Plus, he knew he wasn’t done putting the truck through plenty of additional torture during his busy winter travel schedule in Alaska. That’s what led him to bring his Suburban into Simard Automotive for additional repairs.

“Simard’s staff was exceptional,” says Joe in his online review found on Google. “Cat [Pottschmidt] is personable and professional. While she’s obviously the youngest one in the office, she also takes complete ownership of her position and, as a customer, I feel that’s important. I want to know that my concerns will be taken seriously and addressed…even after I walk out the door.”

Simard Automotive’s ASE Certified auto repair technicians inspected Joe’s SUV and found a number of issues with the old vehicle. The primary area of concern was the front end. Clearly, it had experienced a lot of wear and tear, before and after the long haul from Idaho to Alaska. We let Joe know our concerns and detailed repair recommendations so he could make his own informed decisions about what he did and did not want to get fixed at this time.

“Simard’s mechanics did NOT feel comfortable letting me leave without checking out why my front end was acting weird,” Joe adds. “They did a free inspection of this and told me exactly what my Idaho mechanic told me. They also recommended and installed a moose light. They did an excellent job and provided a ride for me after I dropped it off.”

Ultimately, it is up to Joe what he wants to have us repair. All we can do is provide an expert vehicle inspection and honest assessment of the work that we recommend having done. The Suburban already had a block heater on it, which I was not aware of. The cord was up in the compartment. Simard could have charged me for a new one, but didn’t. That’s integrity.”
